We are an organisation that work together to create a better environment & provide opportunities for everyone involved.
Leeds Swahili Cultural Community (LSCC) was established in 2004 to serve as a cultural forum for Swahili‑speaking migrants and their families in Leeds and surrounding areas. With roots in the Swahili diaspora, the organisation now supports a wide range of ethnic communities through both religious and secular education.
LSCC’s mission is to promote sustainable community development by empowering local families through education. They operate the LSCC Learning Centre, offering after-school and weekend classes for children aged 5–18. These include core subjects—Maths, English, Science, and Religious Education—as well as cultural and personal development activities .
LSCC offers inclusive activities for all ages, creating safe spaces where people can connect & support each other. From youth programmes to adult workshops and social events, it promotes belonging, learning and wellbeing across Leeds.
At its core, LSCC is a bridge between the Swahili-speaking community and the wider Leeds population. Through cultural celebrations, outreach events, and partnerships with local authorities and other community groups
LSCC operates a foodbank initiative to support individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. This service ensures that vulnerable members of the community have access to essential groceries and household items.
Education is a key focus for LSCC. Its Learning Centre offers after‑school and weekend tutoring in Maths, English, Science, and Islamic studies, helping young people achieve academic success while preserving their heritage and identity.
Recognising the strain of bereavement, LSCC offers practical and spiritual support to families. From coordinating community help to guiding religious practices, it ensures families feel supported and respected at every step.
LSCC goes beyond Leeds by collecting shoes, clothes and essentials for communities in need overseas. This initiative reflects its commitment to global solidarity, helping the diaspora support those facing hardship.
